AUSTIN, Texas — Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worldwide are participating in an initiative called Light the World, a global invitation to transform Christmas into a season of service.
In addition to the countless small acts of service being done by individuals, several Latter-day Saint families in southwest Austin volunteered on Dec. 3, 2019, to sort warm winter apparel for the Junior League of Austin’s Coats for Kids drive.
The popular charity event will result in distributing more than 30,000 coats to children in Central Texas. Bear Creek Ward member, Ruth Gardiner, from Austin Oak Hills Stake, has led the efforts from her local congregation the past four years as a way to include families in serving. “Sorting for Coats for Kids is a way to get children of all ages involved,” Gardner said.
Visit The Junior League of Austin for more information. The 33rd annual Coats for Kids Distribution Day will be Dec. 7, 2019.
