KYLE, Texas — Generosity and a creative approach helped contribute to the Hays Consolidated Independent School District’s Clothes Closet at the end of the school year.
Women and teens from the Kyle area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated in a tea party style social with the assignment to read the book The Hundred Dresses, and to bring dresses to donate to the Clothes Closet.
In the 1944 book by Eleanor Estes, illustrated by Louis Slobodkin, a child is mocked for her clothing by other students. Lessons learned from the book were part of the program.
Esperanza Orosco, president of the Hays CISD Board of Trustees, who started the Clothes Closet, attended the event and expressed appreciation to the Relief Society, the church’s women’s organization, for their kindness and compassion.
The Clothes Closet is having a “back to school shopping” day on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, from 9 a.m. to noon for families in need of assistance, where each will receive, based on availability, five tops, five bottoms, one pair of shoes, new socks and new underwear. The Hays CISD Clothes Closet is located at 3839B E. FM 150, Kyle, Texas, 78640.
